Into the Evening

Lettering exerpt from Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles 1628-1900; images by me

I've always found the printed letter to be an unflawed artform. To try and understand the relationship between each shape is fascinating. After admiring loads of handrawn labors across the land, why not try my hand at some of my own!
Cutting, merging, aligning, taping, drawing, inking, erasing...truly one of the greatest escapes.

Oh, a note for those dabbling in depicting.
In my experience thus far, a nice beer and nicer music are necessities...you'll really feel them in the curves and ligatures.

50 and 50: The State Mottos

Fifty and Fifty is a day-by-day collective curated by the incredibly type-savvy, Dan Cassaro.
Fifty designers individually exhibiting their home state by illustrating its state motto.
A Kind of Designer's Atlas meets House of Representatives... BRILLIANT! I'll be checking in daily.

life in the alphabet.

Life in the Alphabet by Eibatova Karina (Eika) is absolutely stunning! Found via Sara Blake of ZSO

The idea of the project is to represent a letter in a natural form and appearance.

Like something alive has turned into a letter and stood still.

In some letters it's possible to find symbolism, others are just an abstract form.

In the alphabet you can find only one human - a woman in space.
And one unreal creature - a dragon, also a very symbolical sign.
